Kaunas' "Darius and Girėnas" stadium is preparing for essential changes: a project worth 12 million litas is planned to be implemented. The mayor of the temporary capital promises that the work will begin as early as next year.

As reported by "Lietuvos rytas" television, it is planned to install turf heating, which would allow for playing matches and maintaining a suitable pitch quality in cold weather.

Additionally, a new 520-seat VIP tribune for important persons and media representatives would be built in the place where the scoreboard currently stands. Below it, there would be changing rooms and a cafe nearby.

Emergency lighting will also be installed, significantly damaged and outdated plastic seats will be replaced, and more comfortable conditions will be created for people with disabilities to access the stadium.

It is expected that these changes would allow for obtaining a UEFA category 4, which is elite. Under these conditions, it would be possible to host important club football tournament matches as well as international competitions.

Built in 1925, the stadium can accommodate just over 8 thousand spectators at football matches.
