The Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), despite the tragic condition of the Darius and Girėnas Stadium, continues to prepare to host the UEFA Nations League match against Cyprus in Kaunas.
However, a final decision will be made on Thursday by the arriving UEFA delegate and the match referees. If it is decided that the match cannot take place on such a pitch, it will be moved to Marijampolė.
"LFF continues to prepare for the execution of Friday's match at the Darius and Girėnas Stadium in Kaunas.
On Wednesday, LFF submitted a view of the Darius and Girėnas Stadium pitch to UEFA (in photo and video format), and the decision on whether the match can be played there will depend on the UEFA delegate’s decision, who is arriving on Thursday along with the match referees.
They will visit the stadium again and assess the conditions, the quality of the field, and make a decision regarding the match execution.
LFF is also preparing a Plan B – if the delegate does not approve the decision to play in Kaunas, the match would be moved to Marijampolė. In that case, money for tickets would be refunded to all who purchased, and admission to the match in Marijampolė would be free for all spectators,” it is stated in the LFF announcement.
