Denmark plans to give up the right to host the European Championship matches © JumpStory

Danish football officials are considering giving up the right to host four matches of the European Championship taking place in the next year. The European Championship, celebrating 60 years, decided to hold the 2020 competition in 12 European cities. Copenhagen is scheduled to host three matches of Group B (Denmark vs Finland, Denmark vs Belgium, and Denmark vs Russia) and one of the quarterfinals. The problem for Denmark and Copenhagen is that by moving the European Championship to another year, two major events collide in one time frame. Next summer - on July 2-4 - Copenhagen is set to host three stages of the "Tour de France" cycling race. Copenhagen, with about 600,000 inhabitants, is unsure if it can provide adequate security and manage the influx of tourists. According to the country's football association president Jesper Moller, there is a 50% chance that the European Championship matches in Denmark will not take place next summer. The final decision should be clarified on April 30th. Apart from Copenhagen, the European Championship matches are planned to be played in London, Munich, Bilbao, Dublin, Glasgow, Rome, Budapest, Bucharest, St. Petersburg, Amsterdam, and Baku.
