Reserved goalkeeper during the 2002 World Cup after losing his place to Erick Lonnis. Started the qualification cycle as the first-choice goalkeeper, but then lost his place to the excellent Francisco Porras. Will likely watch the tournament from the bench.

Veteran goalkeeper who recently became the first-choice goalkeeper after being in Erick Lonnis' shadow. Guarded Costa Rica's goal in five of the last six qualification cycle matches, possibly becoming the main goalkeeper. Helped his club win the CONCACAF Champions Cup last year.

23-Wardy Alfaro (Alajuelense) Date of birth: 31.12.77 Matches in the national team: 1 Goals: 0

The third-choice goalkeeper of the team. First called up to the national team during the 2005 qualification cycle matches against the US, as Donny Grant did not have a visa. So far has played only one match for the national team - a friendly match against South Korea in February.

Defenders

An impressive player known for his speed. Part of the national team in 2002, but did not play a single match. Not called up when Jorge Luis Pinto was the coach, but received an invitation back when Alexandre Guimaraes took over. Can play as a right-back or center-back. His twin brother Gerald is also a professional footballer but has played only one match for the national team.
