Did Watford do enough to stay in the Premier League? (article, Part II)

In the first part of the article "Did "Watford" do enough to stay in the "Premier" league?" the purchases of the "Watford" team in defense and Pozzo family decisions in selecting the team's coach were analyzed.

Immediately our attention will be focused on additions in the safe and offensive lines, which already looked great in the "Championship" league last year.

When players like Bastian Schweinsteiger or Memphis Depay arrived in the "Premier" league clubs this year, it's no wonder that "Watford's" purchases received much less media attention.

However, the "Hornets" newcomers were already quite well-known and raised the team's possibilities and goals even more, making fans eagerly count the days until their new heroes entered the battle in the English leagues.

Although the club was supplemented with many players this summer, the most important summer acquisition with the greatest potential is the Frenchman Etienne Capoue.

Such a statement might cast a shadow on the fans of the "Tottenham" team, who read this article. However, this statement has its own arguments.

Capoue arrived in England with a huge sense of responsibility on his shoulders, and he did not succeed in coping with it. Obviously, Capoue's first attempt to establish himself in the "Premier" league was unsuccessful, but now he has gained experience and is determined to use his second chance.

The Frenchman has already proven that he can play in high-level championships when he scored 7 goals in his last year at the "Toulouse" club and received a high rating on the WhoScored.com website (his rating on this website was 7.53). In the defensive midfielder position, he has repeatedly demonstrated his abilities to play both in front of both goals, and the transfer to a club where he will not receive as much press attention should help him achieve the form he demonstrated in his homeland.

Although many thought that the transfer policy of the "Watford" club was to acquire players with no "Premier" league experience (considering that all 4 newcomers in defense had not played in England), another defender known to English football fans has already shown his skills from up close.

Valon Behrami is a familiar name in England as he has played for one of "Watford's" future opponents - the "West Ham United" club. At the age of 30 and having played for nine clubs, the Swiss national team member has seen a lot of football at various levels, and this experience could also be useful for his new club.

After the 2014 World Cup, where he played in all matches, Behrami failed to prove his worth at the "Napoli" club and joined the "Hamburger" team, fighting for survival in the Bundesliga.

In Germany, the midfielder did not shine, so his return to England was seen as a surprise. Since the 2009-2010 season, the Swiss has only made 5 assists, even though he often played as a defensive midfielder, which requires creating opportunities for his teammates. It is not surprising that most "Hornets" fans have major doubts about what Behrami can offer their team. Experience in the league is an advantage, but it certainly does not guarantee his place in the starting eleven.

Lastly, although not as necessary for the "Watford" team, as many would presume, is the acquisition of attacking midfielder Jose Manuel Jurado from Spain.

Most Spaniards come directly from their home country, but Jurado left "Primera" five years ago. Having played in Germany and recently in Russia, he, unlike most of his compatriots who quickly become stars in foreign clubs, struggled to secure a place in the starting line-ups.

Last season, the player only made it into the starting lineup 10 times for the "Spartak" club and often looked quite modest. However, if we look at the 2013-2014 season, we could see his potential, which shows that Jurado can do much more.

With 29 appearances in the starting lineup and 10 goals in the Russian "Premier" league, it is believed that if the Spaniard starts playing more consistently, he can be a useful addition to the "Watford" club.

Flores hopes that his compatriot will succeed in reaching the top-level football scene and if Jurado does enough not to disappoint the coach at the start of the season, his place in the club's starting eleven will be almost guaranteed.

"Watford" acquired many intriguing players to help the club stay in the new division, but no player will be welcomed with as much enthusiasm as Matej Vydra.

Former Czech U21 player has already proven to be a great purchase during his time on loan from the "Udinese" club. Team fans warmly welcomed the news when the "Hornets" management acquired all rights to this player, who scored 20 goals in his debut season in England.

However, he is most memorable to the team fans during the matches that led them to the "Premier" league. It was Vydra who scored a late goal that brought the team the crucial points of the season - those that secured the "Watford" team's promotion to the top division.

However, despite all the popularity, one should not forget how the Czech's attempt to establish himself in the "Premier" league ended. After a stunning 20-goal season in the "Championship," Vydra was considered a star at the "West Brom" club. However, the striker performed poorly - 3 goals in 23 matches certainly did not improve his reputation in England. The Czech had no choice but to return to the "Watford" team, trying to regain his former form.

At only 23 years old, Vydra should be pleased to have the opportunity to play in a team that is willing to endure and support the player in a positive atmosphere, hoping that one day he will repay them by becoming a prominent star in the "Premier" league.

And despite these acquisitions, "Watford" is still considered one of the main candidates to return to the second division, fans believe in their team's survival.

Some of them believe that the team will rise above the relegation zone, but will occasionally challenge wealthier opponents. Flores and his assistants have done a very effective job of strengthening the team and bringing competition in every position.

Of all three teams promoted to the "Premier" league, "Watford," undoubtedly, has strengthened its lineup the most.

And this lineup at least equals the weakest teams of last season, which managed to stay in the "Premier" league.

For these reasons, I believe that in May 2016, the "Watford" team will focus on further strengthening the team for next year's "Premier" league championship, rather than trying to swallow the bitter pill of relegation to the "Championship," concludes A. Simeoni.
