The Greek Football Federation no longer held back - Italian Claudio Ranieri has been fired from the national team coach position.
The 63-year-old strategist replaced Fernando Santos in the Greek national team, who, after a fairly successful 2014 World Cup, decided to take over as the coach of the Portuguese national team.
However, C. Ranieri was not able to successfully train the 2004 European champions. In the EURO 2016 qualifiers, the Greeks lost to the Faroe Islands yesterday, and they are currently in last place in Group F.
"I have no words to explain what happened," C. Ranieri said after the shocking defeat. "We wanted to fight for our first victory, but the Faroe Islands showed character."
The president of the Greek Football Federation, Giorgis Sarris, did not hide his disappointment: "I take full responsibility for choosing a very bad coach who managed to disappoint all Greek fans in a short time."
