The newcomer striker Dirk Kuyt did not go unnoticed in his homeland and was elected the best player of the Dutch championship of the year.
The 26-year-old striker, representing Rotterdam's "Feyenoord" last season, scored 22 goals in 33 Dutch championship matches, and moved to England for about 15 million euros in the summer.
D.Kuyt defeated Eindhoven's "PSV" captain Phillip Cocu and Alkmaar's "AZ" defender Tim de Cler in the battle for the best Dutch player title.
The survey was conducted by the newspaper "Telegraaf" and the magazine "Voetbal International".
Meanwhile, the Johan Cruyff award for the best young Dutch player of the year was received by Amsterdam's "Ajax" striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
