Doping strikes Russia again: an investigation started into the case of world champion D. Cherishev

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has confirmed that an investigation has been launched regarding the Russian national team and the forward of "Valencia" club, Denis Cheryshev.

Last week, "The Telegraph" reported that the Chairman of the Spanish Anti-Doping Agency had invited representatives of the 27-year-old football player for an interview.

During the World Cup, the father of the Russian player revealed that his son had been injected with growth hormones before the tournament, which helped him recover from old injuries faster and improve his athletic form.

According to "The Telegraph," the injection of growth hormones is not prohibited if the athlete receives special permission from doctors. In this case, it is not known whether D. Cheryshev was required to take these drugs.

The source mentioned emphasizes that without official documents regarding the use of these drugs, the athlete may face a four-year disqualification.

Coincidentally or not, D. Cheryshev unexpectedly became the leader of the Russian national team during the World Cup - he scored four goals and helped the team reach the quarterfinals.

This summer, the Russian left "Villarreal" and shook hands with "Valencia".
