Fernando Torres delivered a decisive blow, with which Madrid's Atletico club won the penalty shootout, beating Bayer Leverkusen with an overall score of 3:2 and reaching the Champions League quarterfinals.
The result was tied 2:2 after the penalty shootout, when it was time to take the final shots.
F.Torres did not miss, while Leverkusen player Stefan Kiessling sent the ball over the crossbar.
"I am happy, satisfied to see the stadium spectators enjoying such a match," said the Spanish club's striker, who joined the game from the bench. "It's a day to enjoy."
"Atletico" coach Diego Simeone emphasized the team's achievement.
"I liked it," said the Argentine. "We once again made it among the eight best teams in Europe in our stadium. I had goosebumps."
