Tragedy struck during the match in Bolivia.

In the town of Villazon, near the border with Argentina, a lightning strike hit one player and injured eight others during a football match.

Similar incidents are quite common in South America.

Earlier this year, during raging storms, 21-year-old Argentine footballer Ruiz Diaz was killed.

In 2014, lightning struck Peruvian player Joao Contreras, but he managed to survive.
