During the fans' conflict, gas was also directed at the head of 'Žalgiris' © Elvis Žaldaris

Just before the A league match held at the Marijampolė football hall on Sunday, a fight between fans almost broke out.

Fans of Alytus "Dainava" tried to clash with the supporters of Vilnius "Žalgiris," and only the intervention of security staff and police officers prevented a more serious conflict.

The fans were "treated" to a dose of tear gas, and even the head of the "Žalgiris" club, Vilma Venslovaitienė, who was sitting in the stands, had to experience the effects of the crowd control measures.

According to witnesses, the woman even had to step outside for a while.

The match was won 1:0 by the Vilnius players.
