The striker of the Spanish national team David Villa has extended his contract with Valencia until 2013, the Spanish club announced on Tuesday.

"I hope that the player will continue to demonstrate his excellent scoring skills and will leave his mark in the club's history," said Valencia's sports director Javier Subirats.

The 24-year-old D. Villa moved to Valencia last June. Zaragoza received €12 million (about 42 million litas) for this transfer.

In two seasons with the Zaragoza team, the technical forward scored 32 goals, and this season he is the second top scorer in the Spanish championship. The Spanish player, who has scored 15 goals, is only behind Barcelona's Cameroonian star Samuel Eto'o, who has scored 19 goals.

The Spanish national team coach Luis Aragones called D. Villa to the team for the match against San Marino last February, and since then the Valencia striker has established himself in the national team alongside Fernando Torres and Raul.

According to the Spanish media, D. Villa's contract buyout clause has been increased to €126 million.
