The head coach of the Bundesliga club, Belgian Erik Gerets, announced his resignation on Saturday after more than a year working with the team.
A former player of the Belgian national team, in the beginning of the 2004/2005 season with Wolfsburg, he surprised everyone by leading the Bundesliga for some time, but later dropped and finished the season in ninth place with 15 victories in 34 matches and 48 points.
"When I came to work 14 months ago, the team was in the relegation zone, but we managed to stay in the league, and this season we played great football until the winter break," said the coach. "Various reasons led to my decision, and no one should blame themselves."
