Last weekend, the second season of the Lithuanian Regional Championships started in Marijampole, where young football players from various regions of Lithuania can show their talents. The main goals of this project are to scout candidates for the Lithuanian youth national teams, involve coaches in the scouting process of national team candidates, and have coach discussions. In the first event, teams from the U-15 (born in 2004) age group of regions such as Aukstaitija, Kaunas, Zemaitija, and Vilnius demonstrated their skills. Many coaches gathered to evaluate the young football players, including the Lithuanian national team coach Edgaras Jankauskas, U-21 youth national team coaches Andrius Skerla and Caritas Falchas, U-17 team coach Svajunas Cesnulis, and others. E. Jankauskas, who watched the first season matches, gave positive feedback about the event and the young talents: "It is clear that children are trained to think on the field, they know what to do. Of course, there is still a need for a lot of training, effort, honing both technique and other components of the game, but the work is good, heading in the right direction". "One wants this work to continue and sooner or later we will see results. Perhaps the most important thing is to instill love for football, without love this sport loses its meaning. By instilling that love, there will be more enthusiasm, a desire to achieve results," said E. Jankauskas. Vytautas Vaskunas, President of the Lithuanian Children's and Youth Football Association, expressed joy over the successful project and the significant attention and interest it received: "I am very pleased and pleasantly surprised by such active interest. I see both children's parents and specialists who have traveled here - the arrival of the men's national team coach and other youth national teams is important, as well as the attention shown." This Sunday, U-16 (born in 2003) age group matches will take place in Marijampole.
