E. Mangala: I wasn't worth the record money spent on me by Man City

In 2014, the "Man City" team shook the football market when they acquired Porto player Eliaquim Mangala for 50 million euros.

At that time, the Frenchman also received a solid title - he became the most expensive defender of all time.

However, the footballer did not prove himself in Manchester - later, when coach Pep Guardiola came to the team, E. Mangala was loaned to the "Valencia" and "Everton" clubs, until finally becoming a free agent in 2019 after the contract ended.

This season, the 33-year-old athlete defends the honor of the modest Portuguese team "Estoril."

As the defender told the media, he was not worth such huge amounts of money from the "Citizens," but had to endure the pressure.

"At that time, they told me that the English even paid 50 million euros... No one is worth that much money.

However, when you belong to this business field, you have to come to terms with decisions that go against common sense.

I said that this record would last for one or two years and that later proved to be true," E. Mangala clarified.

Currently, the title of the most expensive defender belongs to "Man City" representative Pep Guardiola, for whom no expense was spared - 90 million euros. The Croatian surpassed the former record holder Harry Maguire (87 million euros, "Man Utd") last year.
