Former London's "Arsenal" defender Emmanuel Petit would easily get rid of half of the current team's lineup. According to the Frenchman, "gunners" are not winning titles because of poor work in the transfer market.
Saving money after the recent construction of the "Emirates" stadium is understandable, but in recent years, the players acquired do not seem to be worth the money paid for them.
This is the opinion of the footballer who triumphed in the "Premier" league and FA Cup tournament - he thinks that both Granit Xhaka and Shkodran Mustafi transfers last summer were rushed.
"The reason why Arsenal is not at the top of the league and not competing for the most important titles is that half of the team is not good enough to play for Arsenal. It's simple," said Petit to BT Sport.
"Arsene Wenger must change his policy. Now they have money, they have a lot of money."
"A couple of weeks ago I talked to Mr. Dein (club's deputy chairman - ed.). They have a lot of money, they are rich. Financially they have no problems, they have already paid off the loan for the Emirates stadium."
"For example, they spent 30-40 million pounds on players like Mustafi or Xhaka. They didn't do it right, they did it in panic."
Petit also added that he is especially disappointed with Arsenal's work in the transfer market in recent years. According to the Frenchman, all the big clubs know what they need and have planned purchases six months in advance, so in this area, the Gunners' management needs to improve.
