"The Kaunas Žalgiris futsal team returns to the Lithuanian championship matches. On October 31, at 19:45, the Žalgiris players will face the local team "Radviliškis” away in Radviliškis.
Last week, "Kaunas Žalgiris” participated in the UEFA Futsal Champions League, where they fought for 2 victories out of 3 possible, but that was not enough for the team to advance to the next stage. After the European venture, the green-and-whites' goal is to regain first place in the TOPsport Futsal A League regular season as soon as possible.
"We did not achieve the team’s goal in the Champions League, but we performed quite well and played two excellent matches. Now we will dedicate all our efforts to the Lithuanian championship. We return to the Futsal A League with the only goal of defending the country’s champions title,” said "Kaunas Žalgiris” newcomer Edas Romanovas.
This season, the Žalgiris players have played 3 matches, in which they secured victories, and currently hold 2nd place in the tournament table. Their opponents in Thursday's match, the "Radviliškis” players, currently occupy 3rd place in the Lithuanian championship.
E. Romanovas began his futsal career last year in the "Radviliškis” team. According to the player, the upcoming opponents always fight until the last minute.
"We are expecting a tough and competitive match against the "Radviliškis” team. I have played against this team, so I know what their approach to matches is like. They always fight until the very end, trying to take advantage of all opportunities and striving for the best result,” said E. Romanovas. "Our advantage is a strong core of Lithuanian players and excellent foreigners. Together we are a strong team with more playing experience.”
In the previous 2023/2024 season, the players of "Kaunas Žalgiris” and "Radviliškis” met twice. In the first meeting, the Žalgiris team won 8:1, and the second match ended with an even more convincing victory for the Kaunas team – 10:0.
"I am looking forward to this match; it will be nice to meet on the field with my former team. I also believe that we will have full stands, which is always great, even when we play away. The support from the fans and the atmosphere in the arena always provides additional motivation,” added E. Romanovas.
