After a break of 2.5 years, Ernesto Valverde returns to coaching. Bilbao's "Athletic" officially announced that Ernesto Valverde is taking over the team for the third time in his career. The 58-year-old specialist coached the Basques from 2003-2005 and 2013-2017. After his last excellent performance at the "Athletic" club, E. Valverde got a job with the "Barcelona" team. The former coach of the team was invited back after the last club president elections. Marcelo Bielsa was another candidate for the head coach position, but the elections turned in a different direction.
