Legendary Dutch goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar believes that Matthijs de Ligt is not far behind Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of mentality.
Both footballers are well-known to the legends of Manchester United - van der Sar worked with de Ligt at Ajax Amsterdam, while he played alongside Ronaldo in the ranks of the "Red Devils".
According to van der Sar, the 19-year-old defender never stops working and aims to become the best in his position.
"In terms of mentality, he is someone who always strives to improve and become the best in the world," the former goalkeeper shared his thoughts with ESPN.
"Throughout my career, I have seen men like him, one of whom is his current teammate: Cristiano Ronaldo. I played with him at Man Utd and saw his dedication to work and goal of becoming the best.
He has the same dedication and desire as de Ligt. Matthijs is still only 19. He was fantastic at Ajax: a true rock and captain.
Now he is in a new country where he must quickly learn Italian to better integrate into the team. Chiellini's injury helped him reach the starting eleven faster, but that also brought more pressure from abroad," the Dutchman recounted.
