The Lithuanian champion, "Panevėžio" football club, extended the contract with another player from last season. Long-time team player Ernestas Veliulis and the club agreed on a new one-year contract.
For the 31-year-old defender, this will be his sixth season in the team of his hometown, where the Panevėžys native became the country's champion for the second time in his career. In 2017, he managed to do it with Marijampolė's "Sūduva."
During the last season of the Lithuanian championship, E. Veliulis scored a goal and provided an assist in 28 matches. The footballer also participated in the battle during the LFF Cup and UEFA Conference League qualifying matches.
"Last season was the best in the history of 'Panevėžio'. We crowned ourselves with gold medals and will have the opportunity to test our strength in the Champions League qualifying rounds. I evaluate my personal contribution to last season in two ways, I had several injuries, had to play many matches out of position, but from another perspective, it was a new experience. In 2017, it was my first championship title, so that emotion was stronger, but the 2023 title was special because I represented my hometown."
"In 2024, I hope that both personally and as a team, we will perform well in the Champions League, defend the A League champion's title, and play a season without injuries," summarized E. Veliulis for the website fk-panevezys.lt.
"Panevėžys" will start preparing for the new season on January 8.
