Earned It: World Champion Sent Behind Bars

2006 World Champion Vincenzo Iaquinta received a painful court sentence.

The 38-year-old Italian was sentenced to two years in prison for illegally possessing weapons and ammunition.

However, before the sentence takes effect, the celebrity can still file two appeals.

It is reported that Iaquinta's father Giuseppe was also sentenced, as he belonged to the mafia group "’Ndrangheta" and will spend 19 years behind bars for possession of weapons.

"In our family, we don't even know the name 'Ndrangheta'. It's impossible. Now my life is ruined, because I am a Calabrian.

I suffer for the sake of my family and children - I haven't done anything wrong. Still, in the past, I triumphed in the World Championship and I am proud to come from Calabria," - said V. Iaquinta, who has played for clubs like Turin's "Juventus" and "Udinese," outside the courthouse.
