Uwe Hunemeier converted a penalty in the 72nd minute to reduce the hosts' deficit, but J. Sancho scored his second goal just a couple of minutes later to restore BVB's two-goal lead. Towards the end of the match, the visitors started to enjoy themselves: Achraf Hakimi scored in the 85th minute, Marcel Schmelzer in the 89th, and in stoppage time J. Sancho completed his hat-trick. After this victory, Dortmund reduced their gap from Bayern to seven points.
In other Sunday matches, Monchengladbach players secured a convincing victory by beating Berlin Union 4-1 at home. Marcus Thuram scored two goals for the winners, while Florian Neuhaus and Alassane Plea scored one each. Sebastian Andersson scored a consolation goal for Union.
