Edwin van der Sar bid farewell to professional football by playing his last match in the full-packed Amsterdam Arena against his former team. The 40-year-old goalkeeper assembled a team of friends, which included "Man Utd" representatives Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Michael Carrick, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, as well as well-known Dutch players Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Dennis Bergkamp, Dirk Kuyt, John Heitinga, Philippe Cocu, Marc Overmars and others. The current representatives of "Ajax" wore the club's jerseys but lost the match 1-2. The goals for the winners were scored by Louis Saha and Dennis Bergkamp, while Derk Boerrigter scored for the losers. Throughout his career, van der Sar wore the "Ajax" jersey for nine years, represented Turin's "Juventus" for several seasons, spent four years at "Fulham," and the last six at "Man Utd."
