On Friday, the first matches of the African qualifiers for the World Cup were played. As already known, Senegal and Egypt faced off in the battle for a spot in the World Cup - two teams that met in the African Cup of Nations final. Senegal triumphed in that final, and in the first qualifying match, Egypt managed to get revenge. Egypt defeated Senegal 1-0 at home. The winning goal came in the 4th minute of the match, an own goal by Senegal's defender Saliou Ciss.
In the other match, Algeria defeated Cameroon 1-0 away. Islam Slimani scored in the 40th minute, giving his team a narrow advantage for the second leg.
The second leg matches will be played on Tuesday.
