Elevated atmosphere didn't help "Žalgiris": lost to Austrian club for the second time © EuroFootball.com

The Vilnius "Žalgiris" team finished their performance in the UEFA Europa League tournament. The Lithuanian vice-champions played a full match at the LFF stadium and lost to the "Salzburg" club for the second time, this time with a much humbler result of 0-2. Let's remind that the first match in Salzburg ended with a crushing 5-0 victory for the hosts.

However, there is a small chance that the Žalgiris team will receive an additional ticket to the group stage, the owner of which will be determined tomorrow at 10 o'clock Lithuanian time by drawing lots. The chances of success for "Žalgiris" are 1 out of 30, as there will be so many contenders who stumbled in the knockout stage.

Tonight, the Vilnius team's game was much more coherent than in the first match, but "Salzburg" dominated the field throughout the game. The Žalgiris players were more successful in breaking the opponents' attacks and creating fewer chances, but they failed to pose a serious threat to the opponent's goal.

Both goals were scored in the second half: first, K.Kampl sent the ball into the net after a quick attack, and soon M.Meilinger doubled the lead.

Despite this, the fans gathered at the stadium applauded the Žalgiris team for a long time after the match and thanked them for a great season in the Europa League. Interestingly, along with the hosts, the "Salzburg" players also applauded the fans, and after the match, they shook hands with the Vilnius players, demonstrating sportsmanship.
