In the third quarterfinal match of the European Championship, the national teams of England and Switzerland met.

The main time and extra time ended with a score of 1:1, so penalty shootouts were needed.

England won after the penalty shootout.

In the first half, a rather cautious football was played with no particularly dangerous opportunities for either team.

The most threatening moment for the English was in the 45th minute, when Kobbie Mainoo's shot was blocked by Granit Xhaka.

In the second half of the match, before the Swiss goal was scored, the game continued with few dangerous moments.

In the 75th minute, Breel Embolo scored a goal after a pass from Dano Ndoye.

In the 80th minute, Bukayo Saka equalized the score with a precise shot from outside the penalty area. The ball hit the crossbar and Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer was helpless in this situation.

Neither team scored any goals in the remaining regular time or in extra time, so the teams had to settle the score with penalty shootouts.

The English were better in the penalty shootout, and the only miss from Manuel Akanji from 11 meters proved to be decisive.

In the semifinals, the national team of England will face the winner of the Netherlands and Turkey pair.

These matches will take place on Wednesday.
