The England national team narrowly avoided a tragedy in the World Cup quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals, the European champions defeated the Nigerian footballers only after an 11-meter penalty shootout (4:2).

In the dying minutes of regular time, England's leader Lauren James received a red card in the 87th minute. She was sent off for intentionally stepping heavily on an opponent with her football boot.

Reece James's sister Lauren has scored 3 goals and made 3 assists in this championship. Due to this red card, she may miss at least one match or the entire tournament.

Nevertheless, the English team managed to triumph in the penalty shootout. Chloe Kelly scored the decisive goal in the last penalty, just like she did in last year's European Championship.

Yesterday, on Sunday, the women's World Cup lost the favorites, the United States national team. They were defeated by the Sweden national team.
