The Minister of Sports of England, Richard Caborn, stated that the government is ready to bid for hosting the 2018 World Cup.
The head of the Football Association of England (FA), Brian Barwick, revealed earlier this week that he would like to submit an application to host the 2018 World Cup, which will take place in Europe.
A feasibility study is currently being conducted in Vaithole (a street in London where government institutions are located) to determine whether it is worth fighting for the opportunity to host the championship.
However, R. Caborn insisted that the government is eager to host the World Cup. This biggest football celebration in England, which takes place every four years, was last hosted in 1966.
Today, Thursday, R. Caborn, when asked by a BBC journalist if the government would support the application, replied: "Yes, of course. I have absolutely no doubt about that."
The Minister of Sports, R. Carbon, and Chancellor Gordon Brown met on Thursday with top football officials, including UEFA President Lennart Johansson, to discuss the emerging idea. L. Johansson believes that England is eagerly seeking to host the biggest football celebration.
"I spoke with Chancellor Gordon Brown and he is very interested in the idea of bringing it (the World Cup) back to England," said L. Johansson.
"The next time the world championships return to Europe will be in 2018. The last time the World Cup was held in England was in 1966, and I know there are many interested in supporting this project," continued the UEFA President.
The 2010 World Cup will be held in the Republic of South Africa, and most likely in 2014, it will be held in Brazil."
