English national team coach R. Hodgson: I do not promise to resign

England's national team suffered their second defeat at the World Cup in Brazil on Thursday evening, acknowledging Uruguay's superiority with a 1:2 score. "Three Lions" have very slim chances of reaching the tournament's quarter-finals, but coach Roy Hodgson does not believe he should resign from his position.

"No, I have no plans to resign. I am truly happy with how the players listen and do what we work on. Yes, I am somewhat disappointed, but I don't think I should leave. On the other hand, if the Football Association (FA) decides that I am not suitable for this job, they can dismiss me. But that will be their decision, not mine," - said R. Hodgson after the second defeat at the World Cup.

England's national team can only qualify for the World Cup in one scenario. They need Italy's team to beat Costa Rica on Friday evening, and in the last round - Uruguay. The English team should also beat Costa Rica in their final match.

If Italy and Costa Rica play a draw on Friday evening - England's chances of reaching the quarter-finals will be closed.

"I think in both matches we showed a lot of good football or its elements, however, the outcome is determined by results that are not in our favor. We hoped to win or at least draw with Uruguay, but we were unlucky. Our remaining chances are incredibly small," - said 66-year-old R. Hodgson.
