„Eredivisie“ is currently one of the few European football leagues that decided not to wait and ended its season. This decision had to be made after the Dutch government's decision to ban all sports events at least until September 1. Even if the new „Eredivisie“ season were to start in September, the matches would still continue without spectators. Dutch Health Minister Hugo de Jonge confirmed that mass gatherings in the country will be banned until a vaccine for the coronavirus is developed.
