On Sunday, playing against Madrid's "Real," "Espanyol" announced that they terminated their contract with Abelardo Fernandez, who took over the team at the end of December. With this coach, "Espanyol" achieved 5 victories in 17 matches, played as many draws and suffered 7 defeats. Before that, the team was briefly led by two other coaches - David Gallego and Pablo Machin. "Espanyol," with 24 points, currently holds the last position with 7 rounds left to play until the end of the championship. The Catalans are 8 points away from the safe 17th position.
