Yesterday, French national team coach Jacques Santini announced the preliminary squad that will go to the European Championship in Portugal.

One of the most talented young French players, Philippe Mexes, who is considered one of the best "Ligue 1" defenders and is attracting interest from many European giants, was unexpectedly left out of the team. Olivier Kapo and Sidney Govou also did not make it into the squad, while recently struggling Sylvain Wiltord made the cut for the trip to Portugal.
