Today, the coach of the German national football team, Rudi Voller, announced the preliminary list of 22 players who will represent their country at the European Championship in Portugal.

Voller did not announce the 23rd player, but hinted to journalists that it should be one of the players from the German Olympic (under 21) team. Real candidates are considered to be Bastian Schweinsteiger representing Bayern Munich and Lukas Podolski playing for Cologne.

A surprise was the invitation of Hannover 96 striker Tomi Brdaric to the team, while Oliver Neuville did not make the list. Brdaric had only one appearance for the national team.
