EURO 2020 tournament will take place in 13 countries, final at "Wembley" stadium

UEFA has approved the format of the 2020 European Football Championship and selected the stadium where the semi-finals and final will take place. London's "Wembley" stadium will host the four strongest teams of the championship, while the group stage and knockout matches will take place in 13 different cities.

Although initially there were countries willing to host the championship, in December 2012 UEFA decided to hold the tournament across the continent. This will mark the 60th anniversary of the championship.

A total of 19 European cities competed to host the tournament matches, of which ultimately 13 were selected. Only two stadiums competed for the semi-finals and final – London's "Wembley" and Munich's "Allianz Arena". It is said that the football federations of England and Germany have reached an agreement whereby the 2020 final will be held in London, and they will not bid for the 2024 tournament.

Matches of the group stage and quarter-finals will take place in four cities - Munich (Germany), Baku (Azerbaijan), St. Petersburg (Russia) and Rome (Italy).

The other part of the group stage and all quarter-finals will take place in 8 cities - Copenhagen (Denmark), Bucharest (Romania), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Dublin (Ireland), Bilbao (Spain), Budapest (Hungary), Brussels (Belgium) and Glasgow (Scotland).

Hosting the championship will not guarantee a place in the tournament for the host country's national team.

Skopje (Macedonia), Minsk (Belarus), Sofia (Bulgaria), Jerusalem (Israel), Solna (Sweden), and Cardiff (Wales) also aspired to be one of the tournament hosts.
