Part of the European national football teams planned to demonstrate solidarity and express support for the LGBT community during the World Cup in Qatar by wearing special captain armbands with the inscription "One Love." However, this idea was abandoned just before the tournament.
Even before the championship, captains of England, Germany, the Netherlands, and other European national teams stated that despite the bans, they would wear special captain armbands during the matches. However, after FIFA announced that sanctions would not be limited to just financial penalties, it was decided to abandon this initiative.
On Sunday, reports appeared in the foreign media that FIFA had informed the mentioned national teams that their captains would receive yellow cards before the matches if they appeared on the field with "One Love" captain armbands.
It was this threat that deterred the European national teams from wearing special captain armbands.
