European Top 5 Leagues Weekend: All Results and Most Interesting Facts (August 18-20)

During the weekend in Europe, the last three Top 5 leagues on the continent started, and fans interested in the football championships of these countries were able to watch intense and interesting matches. Eurofootball.com presents you with all the results of this weekend's European Top 5 leagues and the most interesting facts of the weekend matches.

"Premier League"

Over the weekend, nine matches from the Premier League's second round were played, which featured both exciting victories and unexpected results.

The first team to start, Manchester United, struggled to break down Swansea's resistance, but three goals in the last 10 minutes resulted in a convincing 4-0 victory. By the way, in the first round United also beat West Ham with the same score.

After a draw in the first round, Liverpool finally managed to win at home against Crystal Palace after a tough battle. However, Arsenal, who managed to escape with a draw in the first round, failed to repeat their success and were defeated 1-0 by Stoke City in an away match.

The other two teams in the top three, West Bromwich Albion (who beat Burnley 1-0) and league newcomers Huddersfield (who also won 1-0 against Newcastle United), also secured their second victories in the competition.

The central match of the round on Sunday between last season's champions and runners-up ended in favor of Chelsea, who defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 away.

The second round will conclude with the match between Manchester City and Everton on Monday evening.

Interesting facts after the second round of the Premier League:

Defender Eric Bailly, who broke Swansea's defense, scored his first goal in the Premier League and only the second of his career. Previously, he had only scored in the Europa League representing Villarreal;

Javier Hernandez, who scored twice for West Ham United, now has 39 goals in the Premier League. All his goals were scored from inside the penalty area;

Manchester United made no substitutions in their lineup compared to the previous week, a first for the club since December 2016;

Last Friday, the Spanish top league clubs started their battles for the new season. If the favorites of the championship did not face major problems in the first clashes, then their closest pursuers failed to win in the first round.

Despite all the problems surrounding Barcelona, the Catalans got off to a good start. They secured a 2-0 home victory against Real Betis and allowed the team members to relax a bit and break the unsuccessful start of the season.

The Spanish champions, Real Madrid, also got their first victory of the season by beating Deportivo 3-0 away. With a three-goal margin of victory, the Madrid club was able to celebrate the first place in La Liga after the first round.

The season started off more difficultly for Atletico Madrid and Sevilla. Atletico fell behind 0-2 against the newcomers Girona, while Sevilla lost points at home with a 1-1 draw against Espanyol.

Interesting facts after the first round of La Liga:

Girona won their first points ever in La Liga history but could hardly celebrate after the match against Atletico. They had a 2-0 lead until the 78th minute, but Atletico managed to score twice in the remaining time, leaving the Girona fans waiting for their first victory;

Returning after the break to La Liga, Cristhian Stuani, who played in the championship debut, proved to be the new team leader by scoring two goals in his first game for the squad;

Real Madrid continues their streak of scoring goals in La Liga matches. They have scored at least one goal in 69 consecutive matches. They have achieved this feat matter in hand that last season they triumphed 13 times and played 3 times in a draw;

Lionel Messi took 10 shots against Real Betis, while all the other players of both teams combined took only 8 shots. However, Messi's efforts did not lead to any goals;
