After the first World Cup match, the Mexican Football Federation faced a fine for their fans' inappropriate chanting.
The Mexicans were fined 10,000 Swiss Francs for chanting what was considered homophobic jargon during the match. Interestingly, this was the 13th time that the Mexican Football Federation received a penalty for the same offense during this World Cup cycle: in the qualifiers, the Mexicans received 2 warnings for it and had to pay a fine 10 times.
Nevertheless, if the fans of this country do not stop, soon FIFA's patience could run out and they are ready to take even the harshest sanctions. It is said that FIFA has begun to consider the possibility of even deducting points from the Mexican national team, which could have a significant impact on the team's performance in the World Cup.
Mexican national team star Javier Hernandez also tried to draw attention to this issue, urging the fans of this country not to chant this word and not to risk further sanctions.
"To all Mexican national team fans in the stadium: stop chanting the word 'Puto'. Let's not risk further sanctions," wrote the Mexican.
After defeating Germany in the first match, the Mexicans will move on to their next match on Saturday when they will face the South Korean team.
