Donecko “Shaktar” confirmed that “Donbass Arena” was damaged by two powerful explosions. The northern-western part of the stadium was affected.
“On August 23rd, at 6:00, two strong explosions occurred at Donbass Arena,” says the club's official statement.
“After the bombing, the northern-western facade of the stadium, equipment, communication was disrupted. The energy center connected to the stadium located in the northern part of Donbass Arena was also affected.”
“There are no casualties among the stadium staff.”
In addition to these news, last month six "Shaktar" players - Fred, Ismaily, Douglas Costa, Alex Teixeira, Dentinho and Facundo Ferreyra - refused to return to Ukraine due to the deteriorating political situation.
The winners of the Ukrainian “Premier” League recently announced that they will not be able to host matches at “Donbass Arena” due to the ongoing clashes nearby, so in the upcoming season the home games will be played in the city of Lviv.
