German legend Franz Beckenbauer advises Gelzenkirchen's "Schalke" not to invite Madrid's "Real" defender Sami Khedira to their ranks, as he believes the Bundesliga club is too mediocre.
The 27-year-old footballer's contract with the UEFA Champions League winners will expire in the summer, so Khedira himself has been linked to a move to "Manchester United," London's "Arsenal," and the aforementioned "Schalke" for some time.
The press reports that the race for the defender is being led by the German team. Club director Clemens Tonnies also recently confirmed that he had been in contact with the player.
However, Beckenbauer believes that Khedira, plagued by injuries, is not a suitable choice for the German club.
"In his current physical condition, Khedira wouldn't be useful to any team," Beckenbauer told Sky. "At this moment, he should improve every aspect of his game."
"His characteristic of tirelessly running in the middle of the field set him apart from others. Without it, Khedira doesn't have much else to boast about."
The World Cup champion missed a large part of the 2013-2014 season due to a knee injury and started only three matches in the starting lineup of "Real" this year.
