At the meeting of the Italian Football Federation in Rome on Monday, Franco Carraro was re-elected president, receiving 94.6 percent of the votes in the elections.
Therefore, 65-year-old Carraro, who has been a member of the UEFA executive committee since July 2004, will hold this high position for another four years, which he previously held after the elections in 2001.
Former president of "Milan," Carraro previously led the country's main sports administration - the Italian Olympic Committee - from 1978 to 1987. In his speech after the re-election, the Italian said that he will continue the work started and will seek to make football a "better and more unifying" game.
In the coming years, the Italian federation will strive to win the opportunity to host the 2012 European Football Championship, submitting a request to UEFA to host the tournament alongside seven other proposals - in November of this year, UEFA will select three of them, and the final decision will be announced in December 2006.
