London's "Chelsea" team found themselves on the brink in the UEFA Champions League - a 0-3 defeat in the first leg of the round of 16 match.
The hosts were punished by Munich's "Bayern" team at Stamford Bridge stadium, led by two goals from Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski.
After the match, Frank Lampard admitted that "Bayern" showed the true level of the "Chelsea" team.
"It's a painful lesson for us," the coach said. "We haven't played in knockout stages for a long time and haven't progressed further in the Champions League. That's the reality."
"The level that 'Bayern' demonstrated today is fantastic. They have a very strong team, so we couldn't expect anything else without playing perfect matches, just a very tough night.
We didn't show our potential, we lacked confidence controlling the ball, and that is the biggest disappointment of the evening.
Sometimes you have to be brutal and admit that you were completely outplayed. It's very sad because I'm sure we could have done better. However, it was a reality check for our whole team," Lampard didn't hide his disappointment.
The second leg match in Munich will take place on March 18th.
