On Tuesday, eight Premier League clubs entered the battle in the English League Cup, where the third round is played.
The sensation was delivered at Old Trafford stadium, where Manchester United clashed with Derby County, who compete in the Championship. Led by legendary Frank Lampard, Derby team defeated the Red Devils in a penalty shootout, ending their run in the tournament as soon as it began.
The match for the hosts started almost perfectly - in the 3rd minute Juan Mata scored a superb goal, putting the hosts in front. The advantage was maintained by J. Mourinho's team until the 59th minute, when Harry Wilson scored a fantastic penalty goal.
The situation for the hosts worsened even more when in the 67th minute goalkeeper Sergio Romero was shown a red card for handball outside the penalty area. His replacement, Lee Grant, made several saves to prevent a second goal, but in the 85th minute experienced goalkeeper could not save a second shot by Jack Marriott, who directed the ball into the hosts' net.
Derby was approaching a sensational victory, but in added time Marouane Fellaini scored the equalizing goal with a header.
Both teams then had to convert penalty kicks. The shootout was very long - players from both teams were almost perfect in their shots until finally Phil Jones missed the crucial penalty for United.
Derby triumphed, with F. Lampard securing his most memorable victory as a coach so far.
In other matches, Manchester City had no trouble against Oxford United, winning 3-0.
Also advancing to the next round were Bournemouth, Fulham, Leicester, and Crystal Palace.
