Florentino Perez made a cardinal and resolute decision in January - to dismiss Rafael Benitez from the position of head coach of "Real" Madrid and appoint Zinedine Zidane, who had less experience, in his place.
The 43-year-old football specialist managed to gain the trust of the players and find balance in the team in the middle of the season. Under Zidane's coaching, "Real" managed to maintain intrigue in the Spanish leagues and triumph in the UEFA Champions League by the end of the season.
The president of the team, F. Perez, claimed that from the very first day Zidane became head coach, he had no doubt that he would achieve something important this season.
"The most important element of this season was Zinedine Zidane. He changed the history of the Real club," F. Perez praised. "Since 2001, he helped us all understand a different kind of football than we were used to seeing. Most importantly, he helped us win the Champions League as a player."
"Zidane symbolizes Real - he is also respected, has values, and is talented. When I spoke to him in January, he said he was ready for this work and knew the team well. I remember his words: don't worry, president, we will achieve something important this season," Perez concluded.
Real's president revealed after the UEFA Champions League final that Zidane had signed a contract with Real until the summer of 2018.
