Madrid's "Real" president Florentino Perez says that the idea of moving the "La Liga" competition across the Atlantic is foolish and the club itself has no plans to play official matches in the United States.
"La Liga" wanted to move some matches to America this season, but the Spanish Football Federation has already blocked it from happening. The match between "Girona" and "Barcelona" was supposed to be played in Miami in January of next year, but the federation did not give permission.
Speaking at a special meeting of the highest Madrid "Real" club officials, where they discussed stadium reconstruction work, F. Perez expressed a strong opinion about "La Liga" desires:
"We are not going to the United States. I really don't know where such interests came from. We categorically refuse all invitations to play league matches outside of Spain."
When asked about the team's performance last season in the "La Liga" competition, where "Real" practically lost the title fight by December, F. Perez hoped that such things would not happen again.
"Speaking of the league, we should not forget that we played after impressive years, during which we won both the "La Liga" and the Champions League.
We fell into a big hole, but we hope that such things will not happen again. After all, players are the same people as us, so sometimes things like that can happen," added the club president.
