As the first UEFA Champions League quarter-final match between and clubs is approaching, the growing tensions were further fueled by Italian star Francesco Totti, who stated that he does not like England and its football style.
"I do not like the English playing style, even though there are several great players here. I also do not like England as a country because of the bad weather," said F. Totti.
The controversial forward also claimed to pay no attention to Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's statement, in which, naming the most dangerous players of AS Roma, the Scotsman did not mention his name.
"I really do not care about what A. Ferguson thinks of me. He will see everything himself. I hope to make the coach remember my name," said F. Totti.
It is almost certain that, despite all this, F. Totti will attract special attention from Manchester's defenders.
"Are they going to lock me in a cage? Opponents always do that. When I grow up, I will not be a footballer anymore, but will work in the zoo with all those cages that people made for me," said F. Totti.
Not speaking very warmly about the English team leader Cristiano Ronaldo, Roma defender Christian Panucci also criticized him.
"The talent of this Portuguese is undisputed, but I think he abuses his dribbling and sometimes, by falling overly hypocritically, tries to convince the referee that it was a foul," Panucci said.
"I watched the Premier League matches and I can judge that the referees protect him. I do not think it will be the same on Wednesday," added Panucci's teammate Alessandro Mancini.
The first clash between these clubs will take place on Wednesday, April 4, in Rome.
