Over the weekend, there were four matches of the quarter-finals of the English Football Association Cup. All matches ended with victories for the favorites, so in the semi-finals only "Premier League" clubs will compete.
The biggest victory on Saturday was achieved by "Man Utd", easily thrashing "Southampton" 4-0. R.Keane, C.Ronaldo, and P.Scholes scored goals for the "Red Devils" who have won the cup 11 times. The latter scored twice past goalkeeper P.Smith.
In another match, "Arsenal" narrowly defeated "Bolton" and thus kept their chances to win at least one title this season. The only goal in this match was scored by the Swede F.Ljungberg after a brilliant pass from R.Pires. By the way, "Bolton" finished the match with nine players, as Senegalese E.Dioufas was sent off for disputes with the referee.
Both matches yesterday also ended with minimal results. "Blackburn" at home, in front of 22 thousand spectators, successfully converted P.Dickov's penalty kick to defeat the "Leicester City" team from the second league. Meanwhile, in the match between "Newcastle" and "Tottenham," the only goal was scored by the increasingly popular in England P.Kluivertas.
After drawing lots on Monday, it was revealed that in the semi-finals "Arsenal" will face "Blackburn," and "Newcastle" will play against "Man Utd." The semi-final matches will take place on April 16 and 17 at the Cardiff Millennium Stadium.
