After returning to stadiums following the coronavirus pandemic, fans do not necessarily create a good atmosphere. During the "Ligue 1" match between the teams of "Nice" and "Marseille" that took place on Sunday, the fans who invaded the field and caused riots did not allow the match to finish. The "Nice" fans were throwing various objects at the "Marseille" players throughout the match, and in the 74th minute, a thrown bottle hit the guest team's footballer Dimitri Payet, who did not endure it and threw it back into the stands. Angry home team fans started to break onto the field and, breaking through the advertising boards, began to attack the "Marseille" team players. There was a complete chaos on the field, which was only extinguished after some time, and players from both teams were escorted to the locker rooms. Later, the match was supposed to continue, but the guest team refused to return to the field, so the referee declared the end of the match. According to the rules in force in France, if the "Marseille" team does not appear on the field, they should be punished with a 0:3 technical defeat, although this situation could receive a slightly different interpretation due to the inappropriate behavior of the "Nice" fans and the lack of stadium security. Before the unrest began, the hosts led by 1:0.
