After Wednesday's Champions League match, in which Madrid's "Real" lost 0-2 to Lyon's "Olympique", the Spanish press did not spare criticism for the capital team's defender Fabio Cannavaro.
"In this match, the Madrid team played tragically, but what surprised even more is the appalling performance of Fabio Cannavaro. This defender perfectly illustrated the chaotic play of "Real" and participated in the worst episodes of these matches. The fifth club number was slow, unreliable, and confused, perfectly reflecting the entire Madrid club in Wednesday's match." - Spanish press did not hesitate to speak ill of F. Cannavaro.
The Italian himself could not defend against these accusations, admitting that his team played miserably.
"We played very poorly, especially in the first half. Most of our mistakes, of which there were definitely quite a few, were made due to the physical superiority of our opponent. However, I don't think we lacked focus, because when such important matches come against such strong opponents, focus comes naturally." - said F. Madrid's coach Fabio Capello also did not hide his disappointment with the team's performance, but stated that he is confident in his players' chances to advance to the next stage.
