The decisive match of the selection for the Europa League tournament in the first leg Marijampolians played at home with Budapest's "Ferencváros" team and secured the chance to continue the international season with a 0:0 draw, reported lrytas.lt.
The Hungarian champions, considered as favorites, failed to break through the "Sūduva" defensive wall, so everything will be decided in Budapest.
"We could have scored several goals, but we have the result we have. Now we need to analyze the match well. I think in Budapest we will see a completely different picture," warned the "Ferencváros" strategist Serhiy Rebrov the Marijampolė club.
The coach also added that his team will take on new gameplay subtleties at home.
"In the return leg, we will probably choose a different tactic. I can say that we tried to attack and score a goal, the same was done by "Sūduva". They tried to use their best chances, they played long passes, collected second balls, and used set pieces," said Rebrov.
Playing at the "Arvi" stadium, the Hungarians seemed a bit sluggish at the start of the match, so the hosts, the players of "Sūduva," controlled the game. This was also recognized by the visitors' coach after the match.
"We lacked luck. Perhaps we were a bit sluggish in the first half, but after the break we were definitely better. The truth is that we didn't achieve the result here, but I believe we will achieve it at home next week," another warning was sent by the coach.
However, Rebrov praised the "Sūduva" team. According to the specialist, the Lithuanians defend themselves excellently, so his team will need to find new ways to score a goal.
"They defend very well and deserve respect. It is difficult to find free spaces when opponents are so compact. We need to be even more focused, more motivated. I think the scenario in Budapest will be the same - we will have the initiative, and they will defend. However, I believe that, unlike here, we will take advantage of our opportunities," hoped the Ukrainian.
The return leg in Hungary will take place on August 29th.
