In a meeting held in Bogota, FIFA officials confirmed the use of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the World Cup.
Earlier this week, a similar decision was made by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), which met in Zurich.
Although this step will be welcomed by many fans, the technology has been criticized during the club season not only for interrupting the game, but also for inaccurate decisions.
"We also talked about football. We intend to host the first World Cup with the Video Assistant Referee system in 2018," FIFA President Gianni Infantino said at a press conference.
"The decision was approved and accepted, and we are very pleased with it without any doubt."
The VAR system is already being used in the "Bundesliga," "Serie A," "MLS," and "A-League" championships, as well as in the FA and "Carabao" cups.
